We are Grow

We are a strong team of diverse and internationally experienced designers and technicians, and we approach our work as a team. All members contribute to all projects which we believe engenders value through our creative, yet thorough and pragmatic approach.

We are an architectural practice registered with the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. We currently have two projects shortlisted for awards, most notably the Chartered Institute’s Alan King Award 2016 which recognises excellence in architectural technology.

We have a strong client base ranging from national house builders, social housing providers and commercial developers, as well as local authorities, schools and private developers.

We work within multiple sectors, most prominently within the residential and commercial sectors having completed a number of successful projects. More recently we have accepted instructions for larger mixed use master planning projects, a bespoke transportable building, as well as an innovative gardening product.

The practice abides by the code of conduct set out by CIAT, we structure our projects in accordance with the RIBA plan of work, and we continually invest in staff professional development to ensure industry compliance in all areas.

We use the latest 3D computer aided architectural and graphic design software to enable us to produce Concept Design visualisations, Developed Designs and Technical Design packages efficiently.

Meet the Team

Adam Jackson ACIAT, DIP HI, CERT HE (ARCH)
Managing Director / Architectural Technologist

What is your specialism and/or history in the industry?
I have worked in the Architectural industry since leaving school 18 years ago. After working in the Architect’s department at a local authority, I developed my career by working in two private architectural practices, gaining experience working on all work stages of many projects in various sectors. In 2014 I designed and oversaw a new disabled changing facility for a Local Authority, which won ‘commended’ in the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) Alan King award, as well as a host of other awards. This was a particularly proud moment in my career. In 2014 I set up GROW Design Studio, with the intention of providing functional and well considered architecture.

What do you love about architecture?
I enjoy the challenge of finding a solution to a client’s brief. I love to sketch and suggest, to invent, and to investigate. I enjoy visualising a concept and bringing a project to life. I enjoy working with the constraints of a project, as they invariably contribute to the final product.

What’s your favourite job you’ve worked on at Grow? Why?
I enjoy unlocking the potential of a simple residential scheme as much as a large scale public project. I have enjoyed our seafront beach shelter, which is as-yet unbuilt. We hope it will become a well-considered and thoroughly researched addition to the seafront.

Tell us something about yourself?
I enjoy travelling to Europe, reading and growing fruit and vegetables with my family at our allotment. I have experimented with product design which is also something I wold be interested in pursuing further in the future.

Ruaridh Wainwright-Harrower CERT HE (ARCH)
Senior Architectural Technologist

What is your specialism and/or history in the industry?
I started my career in Architecture over 10 years ago working for various Edinburgh based practices working predominantly in Residential and Education sectors. In recent years I have broadened my experience by working within Asia for a Malaysian based company where I was involved with a £3billion mixed use development that included a large scale solar farm and Eco industrial park.

What do you love about architecture?
I creating something unique and exploring new innovations with the construction industry

What’s your favourite job you’ve worked on at Grow? Why?
I really enjoyed our Millbrook Park project as we were able to incorporate many interesting technologies within an aesthetically beautiful space.

Tell us something about yourself?
I am a qualified scuba diver and generally love all sports, I once hosted a podcast that was within the top 15 chart on iTunes and my ambition is to build my own rammed earth house in Borneo that is entirely self-sustainable.

Tristan Bradshaw
Technician Manager

What is your specialism and/or history in the industry?
I started my career in 2002 and worked for a number of architectural practices in Essex and Hertfordshire working on projects including residential care homes and private Nursing homes, supermarkets, small residential developments and a new school for children with learning disabilities. I pursued my interest in the technical department of a Property Developer’s, leading a small team of Technicians to produce construction drawing packages and provide technical support to site, before joining GROW in early 2016.

What do you love about architecture?
I love the story which Architecture leaves behind including the structure, the aesthetics and the landscaping.  I often visit historic buildings and imagine what life and times were like over the various centuries that the buildings have been standing.  I like to understand why the buildings may have been modified, and what materials and construction methods may have been available at the time.

What’s your favourite job you’ve worked on at Grow? Why?
My favourite project to date at GROW was the conversion of a barn used as offices into a kindergarten. There were challenges to be considered such as varying existing floor levels and ceiling heights, and trying to meet the Client’s spatial requirements within the confines of the existing building.

Tell us something about yourself?
I enjoy being creative, turning my hand to sculpting, gardening and cooking.  I also spent a year carrying out major renovations on my house, with the help of friends and family along the way.
